LARS Promotions Presents: The Raven Guard plus Supports

Friday night, the crowd at The Crown are hyped up ready for the Littlehampton Alternative Rock Society's November event. 3 amazing bands are ready to hit the stage, Metal Meyhem Radio are pumping out some tunes to get the atmosphere going, I'm here and I can't wait to see what kind of night there is in store for us.

First up we had Turbo Lovers, a five piece band based around Sussex, formed in 2014. Describing their music style as face melting, sleaze and more sleaze rock, the guys bring fun, sex and rock 'n' roll to the stage. The on stage presence oozed sass and confidence and the guys, whilst promising to give everyone eargasms, definitely put on one hell of a show.

Opening up their set with a bit of a metal ruse, before they launched into their track 'Step Up Your Game'. Kicking off with a chunky guitar riff that immediately got you moving your feet to the beat, the vocals then came in with a gritty sound adding to the rock vibe of the track and the lyrics, catchy to get the crowd joining in. The guitar riffs were definitely rocking the track with a hint of classic flair and the beats from the drum and bass kept peoples toes tapping, one hell of a crowd pleasing track.

Another track I enjoyed was 'Little Man'. A high energy, fast paced track. Angsty lyrics, awesome guitar solos and a thumping beat, this track kept the party vibe going. Their whole set was an absolute party in fact, the guys had boundless energy on stage, a bunch of innuendos and even had a dance with members of the crowd. Definitely a rockin' time!

Suddenly the stage was plunged into darkness, sirens started to sound, disfigured but powerful warriors appeared, ready to fight against those mutated by the effects of a nuclear holocaust..... This is Terraborn....

A five piece band hailing from the world of Terra, They describe their music as post apocalyptic metal. You definitely get the sense that you've been plunged into another world with the live experience that these guys give you.

The track that kicked off their set 'Dragon' was a mixture of metal, a sense of foreboding and a dark narrative opening before exploding into heavy bass riffs and chunky guitar sounds, screaming lyrics and a dark tone definitely gave the vibe that you were being called into battle! and with the next track being 'Call To War' it was a very fitting vibe.

This track was faster paced, had heavier beats and more powerful lyrics. Eerie church bells also sound in this track adding to the image that the song produces, fallen cities, battles raging on, kill or be killed. The whole set was absolutely amazing, a brilliant theatrical show with a brutal sound and epic performance. Quite different to other bands I've experienced live.

Exploding into the set with 'Cochise' by Audioslave, they nailed the gritty sound and thumping beat of this one. The vocals had a raw edge to them mixed with a gravelly sound which gave their own spin to this track.

They also played Rage Against The Machines 'Bulls On Parade'  and wow!,  this one got the crowd moving! Funky bass and chunky guitar riffs had the songs classic sound down. The guitarist got a chance to show his awesome solo skills with this one and with the unmistakable Rage sound. The vocals again took on a slight raw feel but added to this track brilliantly.

The whole set was an absolute blast, the crowd singing their hearts out and headbanging along to some classic songs but with a new vibe to them. Actually although they cover some well known bands, the songs they play aren't necessarily the ones you'd expect to be covered... not your average covers band here!

We were even treated to an encore of Panteras 'Walk'  (after a bit of a debate about what track they could do without the 2nd guitarist) Fantastic track! heavier, chunkier riffs and thumping, driving bass, pounding drums and gritty powerful vocals, they gave it their all on this track and the bassist (who I'm sure I've seen before..) gave us a stellar bass solo!.... Rockin'!

So after we'd had faces melted and we were kicking back to Metal Meyhem's tunes, I can definitely say what a fantastic night!!

Thanks to LARS Promotions for such a treat, Thanks to The Crown for hosting us, Thanks to Crimson Craft Audio for equipment hire, Huge thanks to the bands for their amazing performances, Thanks to Metal Meyhem Radio for allowing to interview these amazing people and write this blog.
